About The University of Waterloo Scholarships
To support Canadian and international students, the University of Waterloo is giving the David Johnston-Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards to the most successful candidates.
This is a full-time program open to students from all over the world who wish to pursue any undergraduate or graduate degree program at the Waterloo Faculty.
The school will choose students chose base on their academic performance as indicated in their application for graduate admission.

The University of Waterloo Scholarships Benefits
The University’s David Johnston-Lebovic Foundation International program Awards will range in value from $2,500 to $5,000 for a one-term study program, and up to $10,000 for a two-term employment or volunteer adventure.
The International Master’s Award of Excellence is valued at $2,500 per term for a maximum of six periods.

The Scholarship Eligibility
To apply for this scholarship, you must fulfill the following criteria;
- English language proficiency
- All World Countries are eligible
- Candidates with a solid academic standing (often a 70% average at the undergraduate level and a 75% average at the graduate level) are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
- Applicants must be full-time undergraduate and graduate students from any faculty.
- International students with a valid Canadian study permit who enroll full-time and pay international tuition expenses.
- Students attending the first term of their program (term 1.0) are usually the only ones that receive this. Students must demonstrate academic achievement using criteria set by the Faculty.
- Students must meet the academic advancement standards of their program and have no outstanding probationary admission requirements.
- This grant may be in addition to other internal or external scholarships (for example, the UW Graduate Scholarship, OGS, etc.). Scholarships and sponsorship are not the same thing; see the following bullet point.
- Students should not receive foreign government or agency sponsorship (e.g., China Scholarship Council, Libyan funding, etc.) or be entirely or partially self-funded in excess of the Faculty’s required levels of assistance.
- Nominations for an IMAE are not accepted from students who are grandparented under the current IMSA scheme, but they are accepted from students who were previously given an IMSA for a master’s degree that they have completed.
- Students’ applications for admission will immediately qualify them for this reward.
- Departments and/or Faculty will establish their own internal procedure for choosing grantees with the allotment and eligibility requirements. When necessary, faculties may set more stringent requirements for eligibility.
How to Apply for The University of Waterloo Scholarship 2025
To apply for the David Johnston–Lebovic Foundation International Experience Award, please complete the following steps:
- Candidates must apply to the university for graduate and undergraduate programs.
- Candidates can access the application on their form pages after being admitted.
- A personal statement that refers to the application form is required to be attached by applicants.
- All applicants who meet the minimal requirements for admission must submit proof of their proficiency in the English language.

For Masters Scholarship
To apply for the International Master’s Award of Excellence scholarship, please follow these instructions:
- Students will be considered for this award based on their admission application; therefore, no additional scholarship application is required.
- Departments and/or faculties will choose the students to nominate for the scholarship.
