GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS
1. Applicant must be a citizen of Nigeria by birth.
All Applicants must be citizens of Nigeria by birth, this means your parent must be Nigerian nationals irrespective of where you are born, or you must be born in Nigeria and have at least one grandparent who was Nigerian or belonged to an indigenous community of Nigeria before independence.
2. Applicants for entry categories A5, B1, B2, B3, C1, D1, D7, E2, E3, E4, and F1 require a School Certificate and must be between the ages of 18 and 22 years by the date of recruitment.
For entry categories requiring NCE, Diploma (OND), Registered Nurse/Midwife qualifications, such as categories A1, A2, A3, A4, C2, C3, D2, E5, F2, J, K and N as well as categories D3 (Sportsmen and Sportswomen), D5 (Chaplain Assistants), D6 (Imam Assistants) and H (Drivers/Mechanics), applicants must be between ages of 18 – 26 years by the time of recruitment. The categories listed above are categorized under two basic types; Tradesmen and Non-trademen. Whereby, A5, B1, B2, B3, C1, D1, D7, E2, E4 and F1 are non-trade categories and A1, A2, A3, A4, C2, C3, D2, D3, D5, D6, E5, F2, H, J, K and N are trademen.
These Alphanumerics are just codes for the departments in the Nigerian Navy, as category H is for drivers and mechanics, D3 is for sportsmen and sportswomen, etc.
Categories that fall under Non-trade departments require just school certificates (NECO, WAEC, and GCE) and you must be between the ages of 18 and 22 years as of the date of recruitment. While categories that fall under trade departments must have NCE, OND, and Nurse/Midwife qualifications according to the particular department you are applying for. You must bring your qualifications as listed above.
3. Applicants must not be married or have children.
You must not be married or have children, so when filling out the form please do not tick your marital status as married and also the number of children cause this leads to automatic disqualification. If you have children or are married, you can declare not having any, as long as this is what you choose, it’s your choice but do not allow the Navy to find out you have any.
4. Applicants must be free from any previous criminal conviction by a court of law.
You must not have any criminal record, or be an ex-convict, for this applicants are automatically disqualified.
5. Applicants with any of the following medical/physical challenges are NOT to apply:
Sight problems, ear problems, communicable diseases, mental problems, stammering, or any physical disability. Applicants who have tattoos are also not to apply.
As stated above and clearly, if you have a visible tattoo please don’t apply, also medical and physical challenges such as the above-mentioned; Broken legs/arms, being overweight and obese, HIV/AIDS, pregnancy, flat feet, high blood pressure, piles, hernia, etc. you will be automatically disqualified.
6. Applicants must not be below the height of 1.69 meters for males and 1.65 meters for females.
Please endeavor to check your height before coming for the screening, if your height is below 1.69 meters (5 feet and 6.54 inches) and 1.65 meters (5 feet & 4.96 inches), you will be automatically disqualified.
7. Applicants are required to possess any of the following educational/professional qualifications:
West African Senior School Certificate Examination Certificate (not more than 2 sittings and not older than 6 years from the date of application, also applicable to sub-paragraphs B – E).
- General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level.
- National Examination Council (NECO).
- National Business and Technical Examinations (NABTEB).
- WAEC City and Guilds or London City and Guild.
- Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
- Any other educational qualification is equivalent to those mentioned above.
- Applicants would be required to produce their primary school leaving certificate at the selection interview.
8. All applicants must indicate/provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN).
Please ensure your details correspond with all your documents, the name on your BVN and NIN must match your other documents presented for the application including your school certs. Your name, age, and state of origin must correspond.
9. Applicants with other educational/professional qualifications higher than those stated in paragraph 1 (a-g) are not to apply.
Applicants are warned that it is an offense to present false or forged documents for Recruitment.
If you have other qualifications or certificates higher than what we listed in numbers 1a to 1g on this blog above, you will not be accepted which might lead to automatic disqualification.
10. Only qualifications obtained under proper service provisions are acceptable while in the Nigerian Navy.
Certificates or qualifications not declared or tendered and accepted during the Recruitment exercise are not acceptable after recruitment and cannot be tendered for the purpose of change of department or advancement while already in the Nigerian Navy.
One common thing about personnel, after joining the service to see if there are some department they can do better in, they will want to change their department and some department requires some certificate. If you didn’t tender this certificate during the recruitment exercise when joining the Navy, it becomes irrelevant and cannot be used. Some departments are paid more, while some are been advanced in rates and ranks.
The only situation where you can is if the service (Nigerian Navy) makes provisions and gives room for you to submit/tender them for the purpose of a change of department or advancement.
11. Applicants are required to print out the Applicant’s Declaration Form, Parent/Guardian Consent Form, Local Government Area Certification Form, Police Certification Form, and Guarantors Form which must be properly completed, endorsed, and presented during the interview.
While applying/registering online on their recruitment portal, you are required to print out the Applicant’s Declaration Form, Parent/Guardian Consent Form, Local Government Area Certification Form, Police Certification Form, and Guarantors Form. After printing out, you are to fill in the columns that need to be filled as this is not done online. Please make sure you completely fill out this form as this will be presented during the interview and also the recruitment exercise (screening).
12. Applicants must come to the recruitment centers with the following documents:
a. Photocopies of Birth Certificates or Age Declaration.
You must come to the interview with your birth certificate or age declaration if you declared age. Only one of the two is allowed. You can use age declaration to tell the Navy what your real age is.
b. Photocopies of Credentials.
You must come to the interview with your photocopies of documents, school certificates, primary school leaving certificates, testimonials, etc.
c. Duly completed Identification Form must be signed by the Chairman or Secretary of the Applicant’s LGA or by an officer of the rank of Commander and above (or equivalent in the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force) or Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and above who hails from the Applicant’s State of Origin.
This form is among one of the forms you will print out from their recruitment portal. It’s not filled online, it only has columns where the Applicant’s LGA Chairman or Secretary or by an officer of the rank of Commander in the Nigerian Navy and above (or equivalent in the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force) or Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and above who hails from the Applicant’s State of Origin will sign. It’s either signed by any of the following listed above that comes from the applicant’s State of Origin.
d. Duly completed Parent/Guardian Consent Form signed by Applicant’s Parent or Guardian.
This is a form printed out from the recruitment portal and has a column where either the Parent or the Guardian of the Applicant must sign to consent they accept the death terms and they acknowledge that the applicant is applying for the Nigerian Navy.
e. Four (4) passport photographs duly signed and stamped at the back by (c) above.
You must come along with four (4) passport photographs, this is not the one you scanned and uploaded to the portal online. When coming for the recruitment you must come along with these 4 passports which must be signed at the back by the Chairman or Secretary of the Applicant’s LGA or by an officer of the rank of Commander and above (or equivalent in the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force) or Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and above who hails from the Applicant’s State of Origin. so when going with your identification form for them to sign, also go with your passport photograph.
f. Candidates are to bring the scratch cards of their WAEC, GCE, NECO, and NABTEB results to the recruitment centers.
The Nigerian Navy will be needing your WAEC, GCE, NECO, or NABTEB results at the recruitment centers. So you must come along with a scratch card they will use to verify the result you uploaded to the recruitment portal and also the printout you have held with you. Please ensure the scratch card still has usage to allow the Nigerian Navy to make use of it. Scratch cards normally have a five (5) trial limit of usage.
14. Application Form is to be completed and submitted online.
The columns that are meant to be filled online must be filled, this is mostly the front page, the page where you also upload your result grades, examination number, and the rest. The Applicant’s Declaration Form, Parent/Guardian Consent Form, Local Government Area Certification Form, Police Certification Form, and Guarantors Form are filled offline.
15. Any applicant suspected or confirmed to have impersonated, falsified, forged, or presented false document(s) shall be disqualified from the Recruitment exercise and handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agency for prosecution.
Please do not claim someone else identity, either using someone else WAEC result or birth certificate, or sending someone to come with your documents for the interview to assist you in doing the medical tests, and the rest test claiming to be you. Also, do not forge false information on documents to be presented e.g. faking grades on your waec result, or faking age that you do not declare in your age declaration. Make sure your name matches all your documents, your age, your state or origin in school leaving certificates and testimonials, BVN, NIN, Birth Certificates, etc.
16. The date for the 2024 Recruitment Aptitude Test will be posted on the NN portal in due course.
Once the form is available and applicants have successfully applied online via their application portal, candidates will be shortlisted and they will go for an Aptitude test which date will be announced on the NN portal. This Aptitude test is just an exam that consists of general paper, Maths, and English Language. The General paper consists of simple questions from Economics, Biography, Commerce, and mainly current affairs. Do not worry much they are mostly easy to answer questions like, what is the color of the Nigerian flag, how many states do we have in Nigeria, what is the capital of so so state, who is the governor of so so so state, when did Nigeria gain independence, when did Nigeria become a democracy, etc.
